Teams Report
Dr. Jim Logan, a chiropractor from St. Louis, made history at the
Casino Magic 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in June 2000 by becoming
the first African-American team owner to successfully put a car in
the field for an Indy Racing event. Billy Roe qualified 27th in
the Logan Racing Special Dallara/Oldsmobile/Firestone and finished
25th.
Stevie Reeves drove
the car for the final three events of the 2000 season, at Atlanta
Motor Speedway, Kentucky Speedway and Texas. The team's best
finish in 2000 was 21st at The Belterra Resort Indy 300 at
Kentucky.
The Logan Racing
team also brought a car to the 2000 Indianapolis 500 in May, but
did not practice or attempt to qualify.
Logan began his
career as a car owner when he fielded quarter midgets for his
sons, Jimmy and Anthony, in the late 1970s. He entered sprint cars
in local racing beginning in 1980 and moved up to the USAC Coors
Light Silver Bullet Series in 1993. USAC driver David Bridges and
Indy Racing Northern Light Series driver Donnie Beechler now drive
for Logan in the Silver Bullet Series.
Logan, a 1975
graduate of Logan College in St. Louis, is married to Maria.
